Jason Evans, Father of 2: Black Father Spotlight #6

We had the honor of interviewing a strong father that is a part of the Black Fathers Exist community! We would like to introduce you to Jason Evans, a Father of 2 (Second child due between Nov - Dec 2019).

What makes you proud to be a father?

I am proud that I get the opportunity to help mold another human being! There is something so special about being able to influence the trajectory of your child's life through your words, being an example, and very presence! I wouldn't trade fatherhood for anything in the world.

What message do you want the world to know about Black Fatherhood?

Don't believe the hype about rampant fatherlessness in our community. While there are absentee fathers in the black community (like in every community), there are so many men who are giving this fatherhood thing their all! When men heed the call of fatherhood they make it more likely that their children will live a life full of direction and purpose.

How many children do you have and how old are they?

I have a 6 year old son and an unborn child (not finding out the gender until the big day) that we are expecting towards the end of November or early December.

As we promote Black Excellence in our community what would be the number one piece of advice that you would give your children in order for them to live up to that?

I would say for my children to know that they are expected to be excellent in every realm of their life! We as a people come from excellence, so I won't accept mediocrity in my home! Excellence doesn't mean perfection but it definitely means giving it your all.

Being a great father begins with self-improvement. What area of your life are you currently working on to be a better father?

Financial independence is a key area that I am working on to become a better father. I believe that being able to pass something on to my children is vital for them. While money isn't everything, I would love to leave a financial legacy for my family once I am no longer on this earth.

What words of encouragement do you have for Black Fathers in America?

No one else in this world can influence your seed like you can! Whether you grew up with a father or not, you have to recognize the blessing that is Black Fatherhood. Your children need your guidance, discipline, encouragement , presence, and most of all, love! When we are in our children's lives we change EVERYTHING!

Jason, thank you for sharing your thoughts on Black Fatherhood with us today! Your words are powerful, and we send many blessings to you and your family! Congrats on your newborn! BFE family, feel free to follow this brother on Instagram here: @jlamarev
